Typically when you type a classpath such as flash.display.Sprite you get documentation tips.
However the flash.display3D.* classes are utterly blank. Why is this?

Did you create a project and did you change the project's target Flash version to FP11? (see Project properties)

Yes, I've changed it to FP11, which is why display3D and others show up in the list.

- I've upgraded to FD4 4.0.1 and I still don't get any documentation help tips.
- I'm using Flex 4.5, AIR 3.0 SDKs
- Whenever you press F4 with a platform class (Bitmap) you can see lots of ASDoc comments
- But when I press F4 with the new classes (Context3D) I cannot see any comments

Why is this still happening?
Who collects the documentation and how does the whole system work?
I think the new FP11 classes have not been documented in FD4
(probably the Adobe ASDoc has not been scraped or whatever?)

If you cannot get access to the HTMLs to parse it, use Doc? and download the Flash Player 11 APIs to your PC. Then you can parse it.

Nothing to do with FD, docs come from the playerglobal_rb.swc in flexSDK.

FlexSDK 4.5 doesn't officially support FP11.
FlexSDK 4.6 doesn't have the flash.display3D package docs listed in the swc yet either.

I guess just keep the real docs open for the time being...

jjase is right - sorry I misread your question which was about the doc and not the API.

For what is worth, FD includes the latest FP APIs so you're not stuck even if you don't have the latest SDK, but still the docs can be heavy and we depend on Adobe updating them in the SDK. These updates usually follows Flex Framework updates and Stage3D isn't leveraged in this framework.
