Post Flash Log Viewer
After hours of searching a plugin for displaying the traces, I found a newer post where I learned that I don't need any, since for a while now the built-in Flash Log View does this for me.

However, I just can't seem to make it work. It behaves very strangely. After I opened the panel, I saw earlier traces there and that made me happy, but then I saw newer ones weren't appending. I searched the log file ("C:\Users\Skid\AppData\Roaming\Macromedia\Flash Player\Logs\flashlog.txt") and emptied it, this updated the log panel and made it empty, but it still wasn't adding the traces to it when I was building and testing my movie. I continued to search and search and I found that you guys say I need to install the debug version of Ffash Player. I went at "http://www.adobe.com/support/flashplayer/downloads.html" and downloaded "FP 10 ActiveX control content debugger", because I saw you were also mentioning ActiveX. Btw, I'm compiling for FP10. The thing was, no matter how many debug versions of FP I Installed, I had still just one installed in my computer, so I uninstalled it and installed the debugger ActiveX version from scratch, and when I next tested the movie in FD the Logs Panel got populated, I got happy for a second, but then I noticed those are not my traces, but again, previous ones, which kinda scares me, and now again, nothing adds there.

Hopefully I made myself clear. Can you help me with this feature? I need to be able to trace stuff to get back my work flow.
Other than that Flash Develop rocks! I can say bbye to Adobe Flash IDE forever.

Do you have an AIR app running?
They lock the log file.

If you have Flash debug players (don't forget the standalone player for "External" test movie mode) then you should see traces in the Output panel.

Hi Philippe,

I don't think I have an AIR app running...

I don't know what you mean by "External" text movie mode, and which one is the standalone player.
Sorry, can you explain it in actual steps?

The standalone content debugger can be found here:
http://www.adobe.com/support/flashplayer/downloads.html

This is an EXE to play SWF files - download it and configure the path to this EXE in FD Program Settings > FlashViewer.

"External" test movie mode is a project option: it means FD will run the standalone content debugger to test your project. This is the most stable way to run your project from FD.

Post Re: Flash Log Viewer
I'm working with Flash develop everyday and I must say that you did an amazing job guys. I have a little bug with the flash log viewer. Even if I set the update interval to 10 ms to 1 sec, when a have a huge amount of traces, the display engine try to start from the very beginning and Scroooollllllllll down to the end of the document instead of just always showing the end of the file. It's very anoying because when it's "scrolling", I just can't press the stop button or clear traces to cancel that. Earlier version of Flash Tracer were fine. Since it's embedded in FlashDevelop, I got the problem.

Any idea ? I don't want to change to another 3rd party program / module.

Thank you !

Hello everyone,

First I have to say I agree with Un4GivN_X, this scrolling thing is pretty anoying though I could live with that. :lol:

What I could not live without is to make Flash Log Viewer to work AGAIN.

- Flash tracer works fine
- I reinstalled FP10 debug version
- I reinstalled FD
- I checked the path to the flashlog.txt file in the settings

I really don't know where to look after :(

16ar:
- check FD starts a debug version of the Flash player
- check that trace log is enabled in C:\Users\yourname\mm.cfg

Post Re: Flash Log Viewer
thank you for your answer,

Here is what i have in mm.cfg :
TraceOutPutFileName=C:\Documents and Settings\Administrateur\Application Data\Macromedia\Flash Player\Logs\flashlog.txt
ErrorReportingEnable=1
TraceOutputFileEnable=1
MaxWarnings=100

For the other point i don't know where to check this but previously when I browsed any flash websites, traces used to show in flash log viewer and now there's nothing anymore.

I now remember changing "Verbose stack traces" parameter but i can't find where it is anymore and it didn't change anything.

I sincerely don't remember having change anything but now it's broken and i don't know why... :oops:

I can see trace output without problems in Flash Log Viewer. Like I said, it's when the log receive a lot of trace in a short time... the scrollbar rush to go *move* down instead of just going at the end of document.

Yes I understand that and I noticed exactly the same issue which is pretty annoying when you trace "onEnterFrame".

I don't have the same problem but the topic name seems pretty apropriate :D

Do you think the problem could be from the Java latest version ?

Mika had talked about this on another topic and I popped into my mind that I have recently updated Java.

I'm pretty afraid of uninstalling previous update so i prefer asking first :lol:

Try this. Close FD, Delete mm.cfg and then Open FD. FD should recreate a correct config file.

When running the movie, verify that your movie runs on debugger player by right clicking on it and it should have a debugger menu there.

I'm (so) afraid it didn't work out though I have now a different mm.cfg :

PolicyFileLog=1
PolicyFileLogAppend=0
ErrorReportingEnable=1
TraceOutputFileEnable=1

I am sure I have the debug version as I have the debug menu on the right click and flash tracer still shows the traces

Post Re: Flash Log Viewer
I have somenthing I didn't notice until now.

When I launch the application (wether via firefox,external player, or a local webserver) Flash log viewer displays this :
OK: Chargement du fichier SWF au niveau racine : http://localhost/theSite/Website.swf
rough translation : "OK : SWF file loading at root level : ..."

Where does this message come from and why does it display only this message and not my traces ? :shock:

You have selected to view the Policy Logs from the combobox in the toolbar. Select Flash Log from it. :)
