I use the inkpot color scheme in vim all the time, so I made it for FD. works for AS3 and Text contexts right now, but will port to other languages upon request.
enjoy.

Great thread. I'd never thought about dark syntax coloring before, but so far I'm loving it.

Anyway, on to my question.

Lots of you are sharing very nice schemes. But I've googled and googled some more and still I can't find any explanation/tutorial on how this all works.

When I take any of the schemes provided here and I customize them, that works just fine, until I try changing keyword class names or keyword keys. Then I find out that I don't understand how any of this works.

For instance:
- what's the criterion for the order of priority in coloring (when one keyword matches two styles, which one prevails)
- what style names are supported by the lexer
- is there a fixed order to declare the styles
- what style properties can be used (so far I've found: name, fore, back, bold, italics)
- how are the styles linked to the keywords (I noticed that the style named "word" is by default linked to the keyword class "as3-primary-keywords" but this seems to change if I edit the key property of the keyword: key="6" class="as3-primary-keywords")

Has anybody done some research on this?

I've tried figuring it out through trial and error but it seems there are too many factors to take into account to approach it succesfully in that way.

A propos: I've also read a lot about scintilla, lexers etc. but the specifics for this Actionscript lexer are nowhere to be found.

@kvkleef this is a very trick topic (as with everything related to Scintilla BTW).

Firstly I must admit I don't understand it fully myself (it's more Mika's area), but I know some tips.

Style names (number, comment, word, word2,... order isn't meaningful) are hardcoded in Scintilla.dll and depend on the lexer - they are listed here:
http://code.google.com/p/flashdevelop/s ... /Lexers.cs

Styles called "wordX" usually correspond to a keyword class. For instance I had to directly patch the CPP lexer (used for AS) in Scintilla.dll to add the additional word3/4/5 classes. I'm not sure about the priority, I think it uses the first class matched (order is hardcoded in Scintilla).

When creating a new syntax I first check the corresponding syntax file in SciTE which provides lots of informations and ready to use keyword classes, although the format is completely different.

Another reinstall, another log in just to thank the author of the theme in the original post. Can't stress enough how easy it is on the eyes.

Stealing some color codes from Bumb0x, PLyczkowski, and the Sublime 2 text editor, I've come up with my own little custom mix:

I know this is an old thread, but does anyone still have this theme that lanc created? It seems that the files are no longer available on dropbox :(
